Inspiring ✨
✍🏼 Definition
Being inspiring means sparking a fire of motivation in others. We do this by…
- first seeking out to be inspired, in order to be inspiring
- knowing firmly that we are here to create positive impact and serve the greater good
- leading others with authenticity, empathy and emotion (often joy)
🎉 Celebrating examples of when we are…
- Inspired
- Being with students in the classroom and seeing the energy of the classroom
- Seeing students using and adopting our app: in our data, or seeing a photo of a student using it on Chromebook
- Learning about AI tech and AI development tools
- Inspiring
- Uplifting each other and saying “yes and…” to team mates’ ideas rather than shooting them down
- Sharing personal stories about what inspires us, or being vulnerable with what we’ve experienced in our own lives
- Facilitating a classroom and getting the students to explore and think about their future
🏋🏾♀️ How can we practice being inspiring?
- As Individuals
- Carve out time to scan for and seek out inspiration, spend more time with students
- Focus on energy management rather than time management
- Help and support each other to embody our genius and be within our inspiration
- Recognize and celebrate ourselves and others when we are inspiring
- As an organization
- Hiring - look for people who are already inspiring. hire people who raise the bar of the team.
- Onboarding - inspire new hires in the onboarding processes, show how the value of being inspiring ties into daily work and long-term goals
- Ongoing
- provide support and encourage people to do inspiring things (e.g. carving out space and time, providing budget, mentorship)
- recognize formally and informally when people are being inspiring (how do we want to do this?)
- Offboarding - encourage and support people to leave Hope Street Group when it is time for them to do something even more inspiring outside of our organization
📐 How do we measure whether we are being inspiring?
- Evidence of an inspiring team mate
- They carve out time to look for inspiration, e.g. talking to students, educators
- They talk/write about what inspires them regularly
- People around them (regardless whether they are a peer, report, their manager, or a customer) grow and become more “successful” with time
- Evidence of an inspiring organization
- We all feel energized and resourced. There is energy in the air when we work.
- Opportunities show-up on our doorstep.
- We create change and impact in others.
